Why
Powder Coating?
Here
at Advantage Powder Coating we get asked this question a lot. In
fact we get asked a lot of questions about powder coating. Below
we have tried to answer some of your most frequently asked questions.
What Can I Powder Coat?
You can powder coat anything that will withstand
the heat of the baking process. During this process we heat the
parts to over 350 degrees. This causes the powder to melt and adhere
to the surface of the item.
Can I Powder Coat Plastic Parts?
Plastic, with rare exception, has too low
a melting point to be powder coated.
How Much Does It Cost?
Cost is determined by a number of factors.
Condition of the item, type of color and clear coats all determine
the final cost of any given project. Two of our most popular items
are car wheels and motorcycle frames. The cost for four car wheels
or a large motorcycle frame is $100. This does not include special
order colors, sand blasting or clear coats. Please call us at
903.892.3771 or e-mail us info@thepowdercoatingadvantage.com.
We are always happy to quote a price for you.
Is It Safe?
When cured, powder coating is a hard plastic,
non toxic finish.
Will Powder Coating Hurt The Environment?
Powder coating is actually better for the
environment than paint or plating. Industrial painting uses harmful
solvents and sometimes even poisonous ingredients. Industrial chrome
processes use heavy metals that find their way into water supplies.
Powder coating uses neither harmful solvents or heavy metals.
Can You Do Industrial Runs?
Yes, Advantage Powder Coating has the capacity to serve as your
primary industrial powder coater. We can do short runs or long term
contracts. Please call us at 903.892.3771
for
quotes.
What Is The Biggest Item I Can Powder Coat?
Oven size determines the dimensions for any
powder coated item. Our oven measures 10' Long x 5' Wide x 7"
Tall. With an extension added to our oven we can handle jobs up
to 16 feet long.
Is There Anything I Need To Do To Get My Project Ready To Powder
Coat?
Powder coating will only adhere to clean bare
metal surfaces. These surfaces must be free of oil, grease and old
finishes. We recommend sandblasting in preparation for all powder
coating. We do not sandblast in our shop but we work closely with
local blasting companies to supply this service to our customers.
Masking is also a big part of a powder coating job. Masking keeps
the powder coated finish off of machined surfaces and out of threaded
holes. Please mark all parts that should be free of powder coating.
This cuts down on the preparation time and leaves out the guess
work for us.
How long will it take?
The average time for a project is five to
seven working days. Special order colors and special item preparation
may take longer.
Where are you located?
Advantage Powder Coating is conveniently located
at 2010 S. Crockett in Sherman, Texas. View
