Can
You Powder Coat A Whole Motorcycle?
Mike
Hastings of Advantage Powder Coating thinks you can!
Today's
automotive paints have a hard time standing up to the demands of
a motorcycle finish. Exposure, fuel vapor and rider wear all take
their toll on a painted surface. This is not the case with powder
coating and yet many people believe that you can't powder coat a
gas tank.
Mike
has been experimenting with powder coat finishes on motorcycle tanks
with beautiful
success. "Not only are we able to provide every color
imaginable, we can also offer an array of special surface
treatments," Mike says. A powder coated motorcycle tank has
all the luster and brilliance of the
most expensive paint work, while at the same time being color fast
and extremely durable. Mike has been painting motorcycles and cars
for years. He has put his knowledge of painted finishes together
with the rugged dependability of powder coating to create a superior
finish process.
There
Are Limitations
Plastic
parts cannot be powder coated since they melt at oven temperatures.
Large amounts of body filler, being plastic, cause similar problems
but this can be overcome with special metallic body fillers.
We have used
clear powder coating over special art work such as murals and designs.
We have found that the heat may discolor these images.
